you can't dress slutty in March!!!

THE FOLLOWING IS A RECAP OF A SUBURBAN REBEL TEEN EVENT:

ANTIPROM 2012

WHERE WAS I!? WHERE WAS TEEN VOGUE!? WHERE WAS THE UNITED STATES GOVERNMENT?!!! This was brightly displayed on Teen Vogue's April 2012 issue, and obviously many of the girls at my school aren't subscribed or read Teen Vogue. Which is a shame considering that everybody just looked like a Hunger Games' Capitol train wreck. I can predict that the girls at my school obviously didn't pick any of these 101 GLAM DRESSES. Now I have a theory that you're supposed to look tacky at Prom, it must be a requirement (that and having white french tip nails, in your choice of fake or real, considering the swarm of pictures of these darlings on Instagram). My own teacher said "YOU CAN'T DRESS SLUTTY IN MARCH!!" when she found out our Prom was on the last day of March this year. She was correct that many of the girl's motivations is the ever so man-appealing slutty look. My teacher may or may not be a teenage mind reader (she also may or may not be the same teacher that had a phone call with her mom, DURING CLASS, about her daughters first gynecologist visit). Now I just feel guilty because while I was skipping the Prom filled pages of Teen Vogue, I could have been preaching to the young ladies about what to wear to Prom. Now every year you see a different trend, these were this years trends:

• TOMS as nightwear shoes - let's put aside my annoyance to this show hype, but why would you wear the most casual shoe known to man (the heir of the Croc), and wear to what ideally is a glamorous and formal event. I get many were trying to be comfortable with having to take off your shoes, but at least don't take pictures of your feet. NO.
• the long silk floral dress - replaced last year's lace and neon trend
• the young men's grey tuxedos - I get all the guys tend to look the same in black tuxedos, but this year all the guys looked the same in grey tuxedos.
• the ever so classy "freak dancing" was replaced by his close cousin the fabulous "twerking" - teens all over America experience this cultural phenomenon in which women degrade themselves in public, and men unleash their sexual fantasies. 

Now here would be about the time where I would show you how I, the Bay Area Fashionista, managed to break all of society's Prom rules and unleash my creativity in my Prom outfit. But here is the thing...

I DIDN'T GO!

Yes! I defied the laws of high school and didn't attend my Senior Ball. I missed out on the memories that would last a lifetime. But what did you expect? I would have probably gotten sick from all the judgmental thoughts in my head. I mean I'm just heartless and probably would have caused a scene (this is coming from the guy who contemplated posting the worst and worst dressed of my prom in this post, but didn't just so I wouldn't get the reputation of the Perez Hilton of fashion blogging). Instead of attending Prom, my rebel best friend Karinna and I went out to San Francisco on an expedition she would never forget!

There we were emerging from the underground world of BART (our subway train), and were graced by the beautiful city of San Francisco. As soon as I looked up I saw that the Louis Vuitton Cup 2013 would be held in SF this year. WHAT IS THIS LOUIS VUITTON CUP YOU MAY ASK?? Well I thought it consisted of Louis Vuitton giving shoppers the opportunity to raid the store and acquire the most items in a designated amount of time. The winner would not only take their pickings, but also the coveted LOUIS VUITTON CUP! BUT NO! This is not the case. The Louis Vuitton Cup is some sort of boat race. I googled it and lost interest once I saw that you weren't shopping for Louis Vuitton, so I don't know a lot of the details. You can go google it yourself if you are some sort of chic boat person.

Oh hey Lana! This was another way of San Francisco and the Rasputin music store in Union Square of reminding me that I was too sick to attend the Lana Del Rey meet and greet at Amoeba, a couple of months back. Thanks for having my back San Francisco. THANKS, REALLY! I love you Lana!!!!!!!

After we managed to get myself away from the Lana Del Rey poster, we moved on to find a place to eat and this fabulous two toned building. Look at the colors, look at the chicness. After eating Karinna looked up our next destination on the her trusty iPhone, where she received terrible news. To get to the place she wanted to go, she would have to cross her worst nightmare....CHINATOWN! You see I don't understand her hate for Chinatown, I find it quite pleasant and cute. She blames the slow tourist pedestrians!

While in Chinatown, I found inspiratrion from this graffitied wall, depicting a Chinese dragon, and a Banksy graffiti which I don't why I didn't include in the picture...but oh well. My name for this revamped version of this and this, is MERMAID SKELETON EXPEDITION! It was in honor of something you will soon become aware of later on in this post. I know I like to revamp outfits a lot, but sometimes they just make sense to the places I go. Which then I end up taking pictures of, and later realized I had posted something similar before. All of you guys really loved my ribz outfit that I posted during the summer, which still continues to get an insane amount of views. So to those skeleton-cut-t-shirt fans, THIS ONE IS FOR YOU!

After being hit on by a motorcycle drunk guy outside a bar, we reached our destination! A TATTOO SHOP!! Tattoo Boogaloo, which we may or may not have just liked because of the cute name, was where Karinna had decided to get her tattoo. The shop was so retro and cute, and they had this mermaid painting in the waiting area (which was like a sign from above that this was a correct choice). I wanted to take more pictures of the place, but I didn't want to look like an annoying tourist. A couple of hours of waiting, and then a couple hours of getting her tattoo, Karinna was then branded with a permanent genius piece of art.

Now it makes more sense why I dressed the way I did this day. All in honor of this beautiful image. Everyone at the tattoo place was in love with Karinna's choice. Katie, our her tattoo artist, was the coolest person ever. She cursed a lot, and praised us for being so rad in skipping prom to do this. It was such a perfect Antiprom plan, and I was so happy to do this instead of prom.

Now I am not promoting to do something badass instead of going to prom, but let me just say that it's worth those missed memories. I mean I think I will remember this more than those prom memories that I am still trying to forget from last year's prom.

thoughts & problems

You know life is just a little bit scary at the moment. Amidst college denying and accepting, you tend to be a little scared for the future. For the past year I have been worrying about which of the five NYC schools I would be attending next fall. I constantly change my mind of which college I will be attending. During my secure moments, I see myself attending a big school, where I will get help enough to pay for it. Other times I see myself attending a decent school, but one that is probably still too expensive to pay for (especially if they don't offer too much aid). I've already been accepted to 3, and I'm just waiting on 2 more, which will really change all my plans that I have made before. It's totally frightening, but I'm excited to face the world and really just experience something completely different.

 My problems also consist of envy. I am really jealous of this librarian's mesh sweater. My current obsession is actually mesh. That's why it haunts my dreams and my fantasies. I really need it in my life. If she was a little bit nicer I would buy it off her, but of course she has to be the least friendly librarian. HAND OVER THE SWEATER GIRL!

 My problems also consist of the fact that my copy of Irreverent hasn't been shipped yet. I'm quite upset considering I ordered it on the day before Christmas Eve. I'm tired of calling Barnes & Noble, complaining about how they need to hurry up and send my order!!!!!!!!

And I'm still obsessed with Lana.

This was just a post of my current inspirations, and thoughts. Just things I needed to get out of my head, and leaving here for everyone to see. Spring is around the corner, and so is the end of my SENIOR YEAR.

Pastel Brunch

Recently I attended a Brunch which I decided to go more traditional, and wear nice pastels to (This was back in January, but I wanted to save it for later due to that I was looking for more inspiration, and I thought it would be perfect to start off the month of December with). I have really fallen for the pastel trend this season. I see a big difference in my outfits compared to last year's outfits around this time. 

So a little of catch up time first. February for me is usually nothing special. It is filled with the cliche Valentines Day celebrations, which I usually don't mind. I'm just a busy person and find myself to me quite complicated for a relationship at the moment. I really only like the day AFTER Valentines Day because all the chocolate is cheaper and I am able to indulge without having to go broke. Plus February is a Fashion MONTH, so I'm too busy keeping up everyday to even think about what I'm going to give my Valentine, if I happen to have one which is rare. February this year should be very inspirational. I'm working on a couple of cool projects that I can't wait to show you. 

H&M coat, Dior shirt, grandma's necklace

This whole post was pretty much inspired by Karl Lagerfeld's new cat, Choupette. I mean look at how innocent and cute it looks. It is pretty much the classiest cat to have ever existed in the history of cats. This is like the Queen of all cats here. It's a CHANEL cat. I love Karl's bathroom. The Kaiser shows of a beautiful bouquet of roses that just make the whole picture so serene and effortlessly beautiful.

This was a little tribute to me, seeing as whenever I go jogging with my family, I always look like I'm dressed for something pretty important. I mean I jog and walk faster when you think of life as a fashion show.

I just wanted to point out how proud I am of Allison Harvard. She was my favorite contestant in ANTM, and now she is walking in New York Fashion Week and even covering WeTheUrban's first printed issue. I mean she's the only model from the show that I know actually did something with her modeling career. I feel like I might be wrong, but Allison had such a cult following that she was really the only important one. Her latest appearance in ANTM All Stars was such a disappointment since she wasn't allowed to succeed and it seemed like the show was making her fail. She serisously has a lot of modeling talent, and the show went for a new direction and made everything seem like they were trying to see who could be like the Kardashians (I mean they made them SING and do a lot TV personality stuff that just wasn't what a fashion model did). I was upset she didn't win, but that is ok because she is doing fine, and her career is actually going somewhere. She recently favorited a tweet I sent to her, so she had me cheering like a fan girl. I tried to conceal my emotions from her, in order to avoid looking slightly creepy.

I'm also EXTREMELY proud of Lana Del Rey. Her debut album recently debuted at #1 on iTunes. Many say she debuted higher than Rihanna, and other artists. She is really talented, and I am so proud that her album is just pure magic. She is extremely poetic and just speaks to your soul. Her new cover on Vogue UK is really nice in my opinion. She is wearing Louis Vuitton, which is already a dear favorite, and she looks so soft with the pastels, yet really fierce with the long nails. I am really considering buying this issue, and just waiting for American Vogue to put her on the cover.

Givenchy Couture this season was perfect. I'm sure you have all seen it by now, so I'm not going to explain what has already been seen countless amount of times. I really like how Tisci took the nose rings and jewelry to the next level, compared to the men's show which also featured the nose ring. It made me really admire my grandmother's necklace more because it reminds me of Givenchy's metal accessories. 

I have a big feeling that this month will go by so fast, and March seems just around the corner. I will hope I have the time to do all I want to do for this month in time. I know that by the end of the month I will be quite content with all my monthly accomplishments.

Is it a sin to be so addicted to a book series that you skip school in order to read one of the books? Is it a sin to get in trouble in calculus class because you don't have your calc book open,  but instead you're reading out of one of the Hunger Games books? No I didn't think so. I just finished the second book and I am still hyped up and completely blown away by this series. This book just crosses so many boundaries and it just appeals to me so much. I enjoyed the first book quite a lot, but now I can't even recall it since Catching Fire has me mesmerized. 

This series can appeal to anyone. It has romance, action, and even quite a lot of fashion. Jennifer Lawrence (who plays Katniss in the upcoming movie of the book) said to Teen Vogue: "The cool thing about Katniss is that every fan has such a personal relationship with her, and they understand and know her in a singular way". I personally have a fashion relationship with Katniss. Even though she despises anything pretty because she is so simple, that bitch has the most beautiful gowns. I was dying while I read the book because I just imagined her wearing that beautiful white fur coat. NOW DONT GET ME STARTED ON THE MOCKINGJAY DRESS BECAUSE I AM GOING TO DIE JUST THINKING ABOUT HOW LONG I HAVE TO WAIT TILL I SEE IT IN THE SECOND MOVIE. I just envision the fashion icons being resembled in this series. I imagine Cinna to be a clone made by the DNA of Lagerfeld and McQueen. I think Effie is a mixture of Anna Dello Russo and Anna Wintour. I envisioned Katniss' wedding dress to be from the S/S '12 Chanel collections, with the wonderful pearl details. I always imagine her in A. Wang S/S '12 when she is competing the Games. 

When I think of the interview dress that Katniss wears in the first book, this is what comes to mind. I think McQueen would have been the perfect person to design the costumes for the movie series. SOMEONE ASK SARAH BURTON PLEASE!! She did wonders for the Duchess of Cambridge she can do wonders for The Hunger Games.

Speaking of dresses however, many designers have sketched out what they picture Katniss' fire ensemble to be like. I was more than entertained looking at the sketches! InStyle posted them on their website, and I was looking at each one for hours. Here are some of my favorites.

In my opinion, Christian Cota had the most accurate sketch out of the bunch.

Rachel Roy wins most creative in my opinion! AND SHE ADDED THE MOCKINGJAY PENDANT!

Joyce Azria from BCBGENERATION had the most beautiful sketch. I think she captured the look that Cinna picked for Katniss, in the first book, perfectly. However this dress is more like something Katniss would wear in the interview.

Eric Fetherston's sketch was the odd ball of the group, because the color scheme was different than the rest. I however think this design is perfect for a collection based off the movie, but not the exactly what I expect for the fire outfit.

I made a little Hunger Games altar after I finished the book.

This is my Hunger Games look that I created based off the first two books. The shorts are made out of a mesh-y jersey material; which reminded me out what Katniss wore for her Quell outfit (and i decided on shorts due to the water). The shorts are described by my friend as "basket ball shorts", but I think they are more like the sportswear that Alexander Wang created for his S/S '12 collection than what they wear in the NBA. The leather jacket is my take on the first Hunger Games outfit, from the first book. I love how inaccurate my idea of the Hunger Games outfits are (KEYWORDS MY IDEA). You cant blame me though, this is just what I would wear for the Games.

I get to start the third book tomorrow, and I am quite excited. I will make a third look for the book. Just don't take these looks seriously people, since this is just for fun. If I had body suits, I would make a more accurate look, but then it would just be a costume...

After I finished the second book I listened to Lana Del Rey's born to die an envisioned myself starting a revolution. Lana Del Rey in my opinion should be on the Hunger Games soundtrack because I think she would be something that Katniss would listen to, if they both existed in the same world.

Now that we are on the subject, I loved Lana's Born To Die video. The special effects weren't the most polished, but I tried to focus on the tigers in the cathedral more. She has become my guilty pleasure this week, and I am in love with her look and voice.

Okay now I have to catch up on Hamlet for my AP Literature class, and finish the AP Calculus homework I've neglected this week due to the Hunger Games. My motivation is to finish tonight to have all of tomorrow to read MOCKINGJAY! So excited.
