you can't dress slutty in March!!!

THE FOLLOWING IS A RECAP OF A SUBURBAN REBEL TEEN EVENT:
ANTIPROM 2012
WHERE WAS I!? WHERE WAS TEEN VOGUE!? WHERE WAS THE UNITED STATES GOVERNMENT?!!! This was brightly displayed on Teen Vogue's April 2012 issue, and obviously many of the girls at my school aren't subscribed or read Teen Vogue. Which is a shame considering that everybody just looked like a Hunger Games' Capitol train wreck. I can predict that the girls at my school obviously didn't pick any of these 101 GLAM DRESSES. Now I have a theory that you're supposed to look tacky at Prom, it must be a requirement (that and having white french tip nails, in your choice of fake or real, considering the swarm of pictures of these darlings on Instagram). My own teacher said "YOU CAN'T DRESS SLUTTY IN MARCH!!" when she found out our Prom was on the last day of March this year. She was correct that many of the girl's motivations is the ever so man-appealing slutty look. My teacher may or may not be a teenage mind reader (she also may or may not be the same teacher that had a phone call with her mom, DURING CLASS, about her daughters first gynecologist visit). Now I just feel guilty because while I was skipping the Prom filled pages of Teen Vogue, I could have been preaching to the young ladies about what to wear to Prom. Now every year you see a different trend, these were this years trends:
  • TOMS as nightwear shoes - let's put aside my annoyance to this show hype, but why would you wear the most casual shoe known to man (the heir of the Croc), and wear to what ideally is a glamorous and formal event. I get many were trying to be comfortable with having to take off your shoes, but at least don't take pictures of your feet. NO.
  • the long silk floral dress - replaced last year's lace and neon trend
  • the young men's grey tuxedos - I get all the guys tend to look the same in black tuxedos, but this year all the guys looked the same in grey tuxedos.
  • the ever so classy "freak dancing" was replaced by his close cousin the fabulous "twerking" - teens all over America experience this cultural phenomenon in which women degrade themselves in public, and men unleash their sexual fantasies.
Now here would be about the time where I would show you how I, the Bay Area Fashionista, managed to break all of society's Prom rules and unleash my creativity in my Prom outfit. But here is the thing...
I DIDN'T GO!
Yes! I defied the laws of high school and didn't attend my Senior Ball. I missed out on the memories that would last a lifetime. But what did you expect? I would have probably gotten sick from all the judgmental thoughts in my head. I mean I'm just heartless and probably would have caused a scene (this is coming from the guy who contemplated posting the worst and worst dressed of my prom in this post, but didn't just so I wouldn't get the reputation of the Perez Hilton of fashion blogging). Instead of attending Prom, my rebel best friend Karinna and I went out to San Francisco on an expedition she would never forget!
There we were emerging from the underground world of BART (our subway train), and were graced by the beautiful city of San Francisco. As soon as I looked up I saw that the Louis Vuitton Cup 2013 would be held in SF this year. WHAT IS THIS LOUIS VUITTON CUP YOU MAY ASK?? Well I thought it consisted of Louis Vuitton giving shoppers the opportunity to raid the store and acquire the most items in a designated amount of time. The winner would not only take their pickings, but also the coveted LOUIS VUITTON CUP! BUT NO! This is not the case. The Louis Vuitton Cup is some sort of boat race. I googled it and lost interest once I saw that you weren't shopping for Louis Vuitton, so I don't know a lot of the details. You can go google it yourself if you are some sort of chic boat person.
Oh hey Lana! This was another way of San Francisco and the Rasputin music store in Union Square of reminding me that I was too sick to attend the Lana Del Rey meet and greet at Amoeba, a couple of months back. Thanks for having my back San Francisco. THANKS, REALLY! I love you Lana!!!!!!!
After we managed to get myself away from the Lana Del Rey poster, we moved on to find a place to eat and this fabulous two toned building. Look at the colors, look at the chicness. After eating Karinna looked up our next destination on the her trusty iPhone, where she received terrible news. To get to the place she wanted to go, she would have to cross her worst nightmare....CHINATOWN! You see I don't understand her hate for Chinatown, I find it quite pleasant and cute. She blames the slow tourist pedestrians!
While in Chinatown, I found inspiratrion from this graffitied wall, depicting a Chinese dragon, and a Banksy graffiti which I don't why I didn't include in the picture...but oh well. My name for this revamped version of this and this, is MERMAID SKELETON EXPEDITION! It was in honor of something you will soon become aware of later on in this post. I know I like to revamp outfits a lot, but sometimes they just make sense to the places I go. Which then I end up taking pictures of, and later realized I had posted something similar before. All of you guys really loved my ribz outfit that I posted during the summer, which still continues to get an insane amount of views. So to those skeleton-cut-t-shirt fans, THIS ONE IS FOR YOU!
thrifted leather jacket, thrifted shirt, Ralph Lauren shirt cut to resemble a rib cage, mermaid  necklace
After being hit on by a motorcycle drunk guy outside a bar, we reached our destination! A TATTOO SHOP!! Tattoo Boogaloo, which we may or may not have just liked because of the cute name, was where Karinna had decided to get her tattoo. The shop was so retro and cute, and they had this mermaid painting in the waiting area (which was like a sign from above that this was a correct choice). I wanted to take more pictures of the place, but I didn't want to look like an annoying tourist. A couple of hours of waiting, and then a couple hours of getting her tattoo, Karinna was then branded with a permanent genius piece of art.
Now it makes more sense why I dressed the way I did this day. All in honor of this beautiful image. Everyone at the tattoo place was in love with Karinna's choice. Katie, our her tattoo artist, was the coolest person ever. She cursed a lot, and praised us for being so rad in skipping prom to do this. It was such a perfect Antiprom plan, and I was so happy to do this instead of prom.

Now I am not promoting to do something badass instead of going to prom, but let me just say that it's worth those missed memories. I mean I think I will remember this more than those prom memories that I am still trying to forget from last year's prom.

rising fashion

As soon as the new issue of Marie Claire reached my hands I was blown away with the quality inside. I was so excited and happy to see some of my favorite artists getting a little spotlight in such a famous magazine. Kreayshawn, Natalia Kills, Ellie Goudling, and VV Brown just marveled me with their latest editorial in Marie Claire February 2012. I am a big fan of Kreayshawn (since she is from the Bay Area, which is where I am from. she is really big and admired here too) and Natalia Kills (as I have previously mentioned here and here). I haven't really listened to VV Brown and Ellie Goudling, but have heard really good things about them. However music was the last thing on my mind while I looked through this editorial. The fashion was just so captivating. Marie Claire took each of the artist's personal style and amped it up to a high fashion level.

My favorite was Kreayshawn's outfits hands down, only because it was so different to what she usually wears; yet it was still something that fit her style. The colors were just so bright and happy and the Tommy Hilfiger headpiece was just so beautiful. The Thakoon on Kreayshawn looks so natural it was such a happy moment for me. I really do feel biased since I look up to the rapper, since she is from Oakland, which isn't far from where I live. It's an inspiration to me because she is so big now, and came out of the same place I am from. They really polished Kreayshawn's urban look, yet maintained her bold persona.

I LOVED the whole idea of Natalia Kills pictures. It was something that I could see her doing in her music videos. She looked really adorable even in the dark, fierce clothes because her beauty shines and this outfit really represents her style. I loved every detail of her pictures, even the little dragon fruits in the background.

When you wear two of my favorite Spring collections of the year, you are bound to get my attention. I loved the Prada and Louis Vuitton choices on Ellie. She has a softer look to her face, and the pastels from the clothes really just leave you impressed on how good they look on her. This shoot really motivated me to finally go and listen to her music.

Now I hadn't heard of VV Brown until this editorial. I then asked my friend, and she happened to know who she was. I loved the Alexander Wang on her, with the Blumarine hat which reminded me of  the Paco Rabanne that Lady Gaga wore to the EMAs. She is really so gorgeous and looks stunning.

I look forward to seeing these artists make their way to the top. They have a lot of talent and each have such a distinct style, which is so important for celebrities to have this day and age.

Dragon

Happy Chinese New Year! 新年快乐! Gong Hei Fat Choi! Now I got really excited this year about Chinese New Year. I was dying to go to San Francisco today since I wanted to be around all the festivities, but the weather was incredibly crummy to take BART (the subway) all the way there to just splash in puddles all day. I didn't let this stop me for dressing up in red and just prancing around the city wishing everyone a prosperous year of the Dragon. Yeah I know I'm not Chinese, or Asian but that didn't stop me from getting all excited.

I am officially a Second Semester Senior now. This means that my Senioritis will reach a full effect. That means I have a lot more time to post some cool posts for all of you guys. This second semester is said to go by so fast due to all the fun we will be having, and so excited with all the acceptance letters we will receive. I'm going to try to stop talking about college until I get accepted somewhere due to all the anxiety I get just thinking about it. I have to deal with my mom's "depression" since she is having second thoughts about me leaving far away, across the country. She's just really so sad about her losing her favorite child. (hehehehe)
I just wanted to layer my red shirt so badly.

Collared shirt is gifted, H&M crew-neck shirt, black thrifted jeans, thrifted boots.

Phone case is from Society6 and necklace on hand was my grandma's

Since I saw this necklace I fell in love with it. It was my version of Givenchy's thorn crown necklace. This necklace was my grandma's until the pendant that was attached broke. She left it at our house, and I rescued it from being thrown away. I always feel like she is close to me when I wear it.

Instead of going to San Francisco, Marissa made me crepes and we out to eat at Sonics for the first time. I went crazy ordering all the sides they had! Our "carhopper" was super weird and kind of scary but he was nice. His name was Joe.

You probably already knew, but I have completely become obsessed with Lana Del Rey. I first heard her music back during the summer, but her new releases really have me worshiping her. I love her urban babe look, and it goes so well with her breathtaking looks. I loved her on SNL don't care for all the criticism. I was upset with Perez Hilton's remarks since he basically told people publicly not to buy to "the hype", and I don't care what it looks like but to me it seems like he is trying to ruin her. Which doesn't make sense to his whole "new change", in which he promised not to be such an asshole anymore. Some people never change, but I guess everyone is entitled to their opinion. I cannot possibly wait no more for her album. I listen to her EP every morning.

The more pictures I see of this campaign, the more I fall in love with it. My friend Karinna and I recently had a little discussion about mint prom dresses, and I wished she could wear these Louis Vuitton dresses.
Since Alexa Chung is the Queen of the collared-shirt-under-the-crew-neck combo, she was my inspiration. I just feel this combo is such an easy style outfit for a regular day. Alexa Chung is featured in Vogue's February 2012 issue.
Givenchy's campaigns demonstrate everything I love about this season's fashion in a couple pictures. The way my collared shirt hung out from top shirt made me think of Givenchy's man-skirts.

This was my me while I thought about how only like 3 people from outside my house would see me in my Chinese New Years outfit.

I just wanted to share with all of you that Jane Keltner de Valle, from Teen Vogue, recently saw my Elle Fanning post, and said she fancied it! I basically died a little when she tweeted that to me. This was a short little post, but I have posted quite a lot this month that I ran out of things to talk about. Well I have a lot of ideas, but I'm saving them all for next month! Prepare for all my fashion week favorites soon!

bonbon

Daria Strokous and Kati Nescher grace the Spring/Summer 2012 Louis Vuitton campaigns, photographed by Steven Meisel. Despite the fact that some called the campaign a pastel eyesore, I really think it is the perfect bold move for the collection;seeing as it goes with a theme that was started when the collection was presented in a merry-go-round.  The campaign is retro and cute. It's bound to stand out of the pages of a magazine while you are flipping through it.

chez DIOR ♡

Senior has been very busy. Applications to fill out, homework to do, people to ignore. A lot of things have been going through my mind lately. I think I like to over-think things in order to worry and just cause more stress to myself than I should actually have. I like to go to school worrying about one thing or another. My friend and I have come up with the idea that we will die before we even get college acceptance letters. Wishing for the best!

So Fall is a little late this year, seeing as it still seems like summer. It makes it really hard for me to bring out my fall wardrobe because I don't like cooking myself in my clothes. So for about the first 4 weeks of school I wore more summery clothes. I mean you have to work with what you have right? It looks like this month should be a little cooler but it still has it's warm days. I really cannot wait to wear my knits and my faux furs because they are the best parts of Fall/Winter. I actually wore this outfit on the first Friday of the school year. I just was saving it before I posted it here. I think the time has finally come to introduce you to one of my favorite outfits of the whole year.

My inspiration was obviously from my Dior shirt. When I saw this shirt at my local Goodwill, my heart sank and I just wanted to die. It was only $3 so it was an immediate buy of course. I was so afraid that the cashier would see the label and then make me pay like $6789 for it, but see that's just me thinking negatively. I then ran home to go try it on. It is like 3x my regular size but I knew I had to make it work.

I then wore this shirt to the fair that is held once a year in my little town. All day I kept saying things I was doing, but I would in Dior to the end of everything. "eating McDonald's...in Dior" "riding the Ferris wheel...in Dior" "petting a goat...in Dior". So when I shot this I thought of something not so glamorous to do, in such a glamorous label. It's like a satiric take on the whole concept of glamour. This also reminded me of the photoshoot they did on ANTM when they were in Norway. The girls were in nice clothes, yet they were "working on a farm". This was one of my favorite shoots and I wanted to channel it, so I got right to work.

When I started shooting and looking at the pictures I noticed that they could be taken in such a sexual manner. Especially the one above. I wasn't going to post it, but then I thought "OH fetish is so in this season though" so I kept on trying to pull of a slight fetish mood (I also really liked the way my eyebrows looked in the picture above so I had to come up with an excuse). So if you are offended my poses, I'm sorry I'm not sorry.

Dior shirt, ASOS geo shorts, UO shoes, Calvin Klein belt
I love the pants because even though they are just a bunch of geometric shapes, at times it reminds me of snake skin print, which then reminds me of Missoni and Chloe F/W 2011.

I've been thinking a lot about perfection. So many say that nobody is perfect and that we all make mistakes and have flaws. However there are also those who say that beauty is in the eyes of the beholder, so can't perfection also be? I know a lot of individuals who are perfect in my eyes. Maybe there are those who might see me as perfect. I don't see myself as perfect, because there are a lot of things that I wish I had or did. Well, what if I have what another person wants, like they want to be like me. Aren't I perfect to them? That would make me perfect. In conclusion perfection does exist. Human perfection is harder to prove, but I mean clothes and music and anything else can easily be proven as perfect.

This month should be a lot of fun actually. I am starting to plan my Halloween costume. I haven't actually had a real costume since like 8th grade. Seeing as Halloween actually is on a school day this year, I'm going to dress up for school. I can finally join the crowd and look amazing. Yey I'm perfect.

hello this is me..eating In n Out in Dior...well drinking but same thing
